Do ball (royal) pythons need UVB lights?

I've heard different answers from different pet care specialists. I got a fluorescent fixture for 15 dollars today (total steal, btw) and wanted to know if UVB is necessary for ball pythons. If it's not necessary, say so. If it is beneficial in any way, please elaborate. If it is necessary, explain why to disprove the people saying it isn't. Thanks in advance
