In America, what factors for individuals do you believe most contribute to poverty?

Some do very well and some are perpetually poor. What factors do you believe contribute to those who are poor getting there and staying there. Also some input about what economic system you believe in (capitalism, socialism, blended economies, communism, fascism, etc).
